Dorodecoupage

Meet the Maker - Dorothy Massey

Dorothy Massey.jpg

What do you do?

I run Dorodecoupage and make napkin decoupaged items inspired by my love of wildlife and nature. My preferred material is solid wood, but I also decoupage onto slate, stone and sometimes, glass. Popular products include tea-light holders, coasters, animal and bird ornaments and wooden hangers.

How did you get started?

I attended a napkin decoupage workshop at From Loft to Loved in Sedgefield where I made my first items on glass and wood. I remember being thrilled at how the napkins totally transformed the objects and the endless possibilities the medium provided. I began to make small items to give as gifts and eventually began selling at local craft fairs after joining Weardale Crafters. Elvet & Bailey was the first shop to stock my items!

Is this your full time job?

No, I'm also a self-employed tutor of English, Literacy and Basic numeracy, so look out for literary images and quotations creeping into my crafts too!

Where do you create?

I currently create in a room at home in Crook which doubles as my office. I'm considering other options, which include the possible purchase of a shed.

Tea or coffee?

Coffee.

Where is your favourite local place?

Seaham beach.
