About the Event

Learn the fundamentals of drawing maps by hand from artist-cartographer Kevin Sheehan.

The workshop will cover the following:

- Planning a map and the stages of drawing

- Transferring real geography onto your map

- Calligraphy of place names

- Adding decorations, e.g. banners, compass roses, flags etc.

- Drawing geography, e.g. towns/buildings, trees, mountains, rivers, shorelines

- Adding a decorative title and decorative border

You will be given these supplies to keep:

- 3 black ‘fineliner’ drawing pens of different thicknesses

- 1 black calligraphy pen

- 1 mechanical pencil

- 3 sheets of thick A3-size paper for drawing

Other supplies (rulers, stencils, erasers, etc) will be available to share, and feel free to bring your own drawing supplies too!

Workshop suitable for those aged 12+

IMPORTANT: Please email Kevin Sheehan by 28 May - kevin@manuscriptmaps.com - noting the place you want to draw a map of, so a printout map (A4 size) of the place (from Open Street Map) can be provided to you. Or, bring an A4 size printout yourself.

Unfortunately, refunds may not be issued within seven days of the workshop in the event of illness or other reason for cancellation unless we can fill your space. If the event is cancelled by the tutor or venue, a full refund will be issued.
